On Valentine’s Day House of Illustration will open an exhibition of Quentin Blake’s rarely-seen nudes. It will show 18 original pencil drawings depicting women avoiding or embracing Cupid’s arrow.
Drawn from his personal archive, they reveal Quentin Blake’s reflections on the joy, folly and sorrow of love with his characteristic humour.
Quentin Blake said:
“If, perhaps as part of some vain attempt at tidying up, I find myself delving into old portfolios and plan chest drawers, I am quite likely to come across sequences of drawings I have produced from time to time alongside other work. They have rested out of sight but this situation has delightfully changed with the arrival in London of House of Illustration.”
